Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday that the India–New Zealand partnership is set to grow even stronger, calling it a “Successful Kiwi‑Bharat Stories” project that will deepen collaboration across business, technology, and culture.
During a community gathering at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Auckland, Goyal thanked New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon for joining the event. Luxon praised India’s rise as a global economic powerhouse and noted that India is on track to become the world’s third‑largest economy. He described the Indian diaspora as “bridges” that strengthen ties between the two nations.
Goyal hosted a lively session called “Tea with Indian Business Delegation,” where he welcomed the largest‑ever Indian business delegation to New Zealand. The leaders highlighted new chances for cooperation in agriculture, food processing, forestry, tech, and innovation. They praised India’s forward‑looking policies, such as the Production Linked Incentive scheme and Startup India initiative, which have helped Indian firms expand internationally.
“Entrepreneurship and innovation drive growth and deepen our partnership,” Goyal urged, urging Indian companies to stay persistent. He also called for new ways to work together in maritime, forestry, sports, education, technology, and tourism.
Talking about the ongoing India–New Zealand free‑trade agreement, Goyal said talks are progressing on a balanced basis. New Zealand will gain access to India’s huge and fast‑growing market, while India can tap New Zealand’s tech expertise and niche capabilities. He also highlighted the Indian diaspora’s vital role in boosting New Zealand’s economy and cultural ties.
The visit marks the first time such a large business delegation has come to New Zealand from India—a testament to the confidence of Indian industry and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
