New Delhi – Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal heads to Doha on Sunday for a two‑day meeting with Qatar’s trade officials to push forward the India‑Qatar Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The talks will be co‑chaired by Qatar’s Commerce Minister Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al‑Thani.
Goyal’s visit marks his first trip to Qatar, a key Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) partner with whom India trades for over $14 billion in 2024‑25. The ministers will focus on finalising the Terms of Reference for the CEPA, a deal that aims to remove trade barriers and boost investment flows between the two economies.
In addition to trade, the agenda includes cooperation on finance, agriculture, environment, tourism, culture and health. Goyal will meet Qatar’s business leaders from the Qatar Chamber and the Qatari Businessmen Association to explore new growth opportunities.
The Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry says the trip demonstrates India’s commitment to deepening economic ties with Qatar and strengthening its position in the Gulf market. The discussions will likely broaden bilateral trade performance, tackle non‑tariff obstacles and outline a roadmap for the free trade agreement.
