PM Modi concludes G20 Summit engagements and bilateral meetings, departs from South Africa

New Delhi, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended his duties at the G20 Summit and concluded discussions with world leaders on Sunday before flying out of Johannesburg, South Africa.
“After successfully concluding his engagements at the G20 Summit and meetings with world leaders, PM Narendra Modi departs from Johannesburg, South Africa,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on X.
Modi launched his official visit on Friday and engaged in several key talks with global leaders during the summit.
During the event he met a range of prominent figures, including France’s President Emmanuel Macron, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, WTO Director‑General Ngozi Okonjo‑Iweala, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and others.
Speaking at the third session on Sunday, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of building a fair and just future that relies on technology designed to be human‑centric, universal, and open‑source, rather than one that is purely finance‑driven and exclusive.
He pointed to India’s inclusive tech strategy, noting widespread adoption of digital payments, space‑tech initiatives, and artificial intelligence (AI) across the country.
The leader also announced that India plans to host the AI Impact Summit in February 2026 and said:
“We have picked the theme of Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya or welfare for all, happiness for all,” he added.
Modi stressed that in the AI era we should move from thinking about “jobs for today” to developing “capabilities for tomorrow.”
“We hope that in the next few years, the G20 will develop a global framework for talent mobility. This will boost innovation and benefit the youth of our planet,” PM Modi said.
The summit saw a broad agreement among heads of state on priorities such as disaster resilience, debt sustainability, a just energy transition, and the strategic importance of critical minerals, as they endorsed the G20 South Africa Leaders’ Declaration on Saturday.
The declaration was formally adopted at the summit’s opening, the first meeting of its kind to take place in Africa. The two‑day event in Johannesburg carried the theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.”
