Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met in New Delhi on Thursday to boost their countries’ friendship. The meeting happened at Hyderabad House, and both leaders talked about how to strengthen their ties even more.
During this important visit, India and Singapore are expected to sign several big agreements. These deals will cover many areas like finance, digital technology, skill development, civil aviation, maritime cooperation, and space technology. Such partnerships aim to boost economic growth and innovation for both nations.
Earlier, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, met with Wong and shared his optimism about deepening India-Singapore relations. He tweeted, “Pleased to meet Prime Minister Lawrence Wong today in Delhi. Appreciate his support for stronger India-Singapore ties.” Jaishankar also said he believes the upcoming talks between Wong and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will set a clear plan for future cooperation.
Wong’s visit is his first to India since becoming Prime Minister. He’s accompanied by his wife and a high-level team including ministers and senior officials. After their discussions, Wong will also meet President Droupadi Murmu.
In recent days, Wong has been busy with meetings across India. On Tuesday, he talked with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, focusing on health and financial cooperation.
This visit is especially significant because it marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. The two countries celebrated their long-standing partnership, which has grown into a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” since Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Singapore last September.
The external affairs ministry highlighted that this visit provides an excellent chance for both leaders to review their cooperation and plan new projects. They will also discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest, showing how important their partnership is on the international stage.
Overall, India and Singapore are working together closely in many areas, and this visit aims to take their friendship to new heights.
