Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a warm exchange with his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, on his 75th birthday. In a quick phone call, Putin extended heartfelt birthday wishes and praised Modi’s leadership in boosting India-Russia ties.
Modi, posting on X right after the call, thanked Putin, calling him a “friend.” He said, “Thank you, my friend, President Putin, for your phone call and warm wishes on my 75th birthday. We are committed to further strengthening our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.”
Earlier, Putin had glowing words for Modi. He highlighted how Modi’s work as India’s leader has won huge respect at home and abroad. “Under your guidance, India has achieved impressive results in the social, economic, scientific, and technological spheres,” Putin noted.
The Russian President also commended Modi’s personal role in deepening the bilateral relations between New Delhi and Moscow. “You are making a great personal contribution to strengthening the privileged strategic partnership between our countries and to promoting mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation in various areas,” he added. Putin emphasized their “close comradely relations” and promised to keep up the constructive dialogue on bilateral, regional, and global issues.
This friendly chat comes soon after Modi and Putin met on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin, China. There, they reaffirmed their commitment to the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. The leaders also talked about key global matters, including the ongoing Ukraine situation.
Modi reiterated India’s support for peace efforts in Ukraine, stressing the urgency to end the conflict and secure a lasting solution. He even invited Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit later this year, showing both nations’ eagerness to keep building on their strong bond.
