Rights group expresses concern over enforced disappearances of women in Balochistan

Quetta, Nov 26 (LatestNewsX) – Nasrullah Baloch, the head of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, voiced severe alarm over the recent forced disappearances of Baloch women activists, pointing out that Mahjabeen Baloch has been absent for the last half‑year.

Speaking at a brief in Quetta, Nasrullah reported that security forces conducted a raid on a house in Hub Chowki and took Nasreen Baloch into custody. He emphasized that she has been moved to an undisclosed site and asked for her immediate release; Dawn’s Wednesday bulletin echoed the same claim.

Nasrullah explained that officials have withheld any information about Nasreen’s location from her relatives, creating deep distress for her family. The family had reached out to VBMP after learning of the abduction, which prompted the organization to intervene.

He also detailed that Mahjabeen, a University of Balochistan student, was taken from Quetta Civil Hospital in May. After six months, she has never appeared in any Pakistani court and no update has been given to her loved ones.

Elsewhere, VBMP continues to protest forced disappearances along the front steps of the Quetta Press Club.

In a statement released on X this Tuesday, the organization read: “The Voice for Baloch Missing Persons’ ongoing protest camp against enforced disappearances in Balochistan continues on its 6010th day in front of the Quetta Press Club under the leadership of the organization’s Chairman Nasrullah Baloch.”

On Nov 22, several human‑rights groups condemned the disappearance of a teenage Baloch girl during a raid by Pakistani forces in Balochistan. The Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) said that 15‑year‑old Nasreena Baloch was reportedly seized during a security breach in the Daroo area of Hub Chowki on Saturday. BVJ warned that “the targeted raid and subsequent disappearance of a minor highlight the intensifying pattern of repression faced by Baloch women and girls,” and urged international bodies, including the United Nations and global civil‑society organisations, to step in immediately to shield Baloch women from intimidation, harassment, and abductions. They also demanded Nasreena’s safe and prompt return, calling on Pakistani authorities to comply with international human‑rights law by ending enforced disappearances and holding perpetrators accountable.

Baloch Women Forum (BWF) condemned the incident and called for the instant release of Nasreena, noting that her detention has unsettled societal norms. According to BWF, she has been relocated to an unknown place and her family has received no information, nor has she been presented at the city’s police station. They added that, “For the last few years, women victimisation has increased through various means. Other than the societal dilemmas, they are facing direct state brutes, along with Baloch men, including enforced disappearances in particular. Earlier, Sayad Bibi, Sakeena and two other Baloch women were forcibly detained back in 2019, followed by the illegal arrest of Mahal Baloch, Noor Khatoon of Sibi’s abduction from Quetta (then released), Asma of Khuzdar, Mahjabeen of Quetta and a growing list of women victims of the heinous state’s illegal practice of enforced disappearances are a part of state’s illegal campaign against the indigenous Baloch,” the BWF stated.
