Riyadh, Oct. 8 – A new round of talks between Saudi Arabia and China has kicked off a fresh wave of cooperation, according to experts gathered for a seminar in Riyadh.
The event, called “Saudi‑China Dialogue and Exchange on Modernisation,” was organized by Saudi Arabia’s Centre for Research and Intercommunication Knowledge (CRIK) and China Intercontinental Press, with coverage from Xinhua.
Speakers from both sides discussed how to build a joint path to modernisation, covering cultural ties, people‑to‑people links and the growing focus on green energy.
“Since we opened diplomatic ties in 1990, our relationship has grown both in depth and in numbers,” said Saleh Al‑Saqri, former Saudi cultural attaché to China. “Strengthening our strategic partnership with China not only balances our foreign policy but also shows a shared desire to promote peace and civilised dialogue.”
2025 will mark two milestones: the China‑Saudi Cultural Year and the 35th anniversary of formal diplomatic relations. Haitham Alsayed, director of CRIK’s Chinese Studies Unit, noted that cultural and people‑to‑people exchanges are vital for deepening friendship.
Alsayed highlighted recent joint projects—cultural exhibitions, academic exchanges, student programs, and publishing collaborations—that have already boosted understanding, especially among younger generations.
Clean energy has become a new pillar of cooperation. Abdulrahman Marshod, a CRIK researcher, said the energy partnership has shifted from traditional oil and trade to a future‑oriented model of diversification, innovation and sustainability. “Our clean‑energy ties are now about complementarity, joint investment and forward planning,” he explained.
The Saudi‑Chinese partnership, now entering a mature phase, is injecting fresh momentum into both countries’ modernisation efforts.
