Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, dove into the vibrant Durga Puja celebrations in New Delhi this weekend. On Sunday, he visited the historic Durga Bari Mandir to kick off Shashthi, the festival’s sixth day dedicated to Goddess Durga. Wong offered prayers, seeking blessings for good deeds, devotion, and righteousness, and shared joyful photos from the temple on X, formerly Twitter.

After his spiritual visit, Wong treated himself to a classic Indian breakfast—steamy Chole Bhature. The Singapore Embassy in India posted on X: “Good morning friends. Enjoying my #ChholeBhature breakfast. Have a good day. HC Wong.” Fans of Indian cuisine will love how he embraced this spicy chickpea and fried bread delight during the festive season.

This isn’t Wong’s first cultural highlight this month. He recently announced a special India-Singapore 60th anniversary event: an art exhibition called “Chromatic Currents” by renowned Singaporean artist Kumari Nahappan. The free show at Pristine Contemporary in New Delhi runs until October 30, 2025, showcasing Nahappan’s colorful works. Wong shared snaps from the opening reception on X, inviting everyone to explore the pieces that celebrate ties between the two nations.

Last month, Wong joined the ASEAN New Delhi Committee to mark ASEAN Day with flair. They held a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a video message from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Wong posted on X: “Happy to celebrate ASEAN Day with our ANDC family in New Delhi… Many thanks to our friends at the Malaysian High Commission for organizing.” It’s a nod to the strong regional bonds.

ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, started in 1967 when Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand signed the Bangkok Declaration in the Thai capital. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1984, Vietnam in 1995, Laos and Myanmar in 1997, and Cambodia in 1999. Today, the group includes Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—working together on peace, stability, and growth in Southeast Asia.
