NParks takes action against pet owners in 21 cases of cats, dogs falling from height

NParks, Singapore’s National Parks Board, has stepped up its enforcement against pet owners in 21 new cases where cats and dogs fell from high places. The board says the incidents show a worrying trend of neglect that puts animals at risk of serious injury or death.

In each case, the pet owner either failed to secure the animal or allowed it to climb onto rooftops, balconies or raised platforms. “We’re seeing an increasing number of animals falling from great heights, and the consequences are often devastating,” said a Senior Officer at NParks. “Our purpose is to protect both the pets and the public.”

NParks will take action that can include fines, confiscation of the pets, and in some cases, restrictions on future pet ownership. Several owners already face penalties while the board reviews each case on an individual basis.

The board emphasizes that owners must keep their pets safely indoors or on enclosed balconies. “The safety of the animal matters just as much as the safety of people,” the officer added. NParks also plans to launch educational posts on social media and in community centers about responsible pet care and the dangers of leaving pets on high, unsecured surfaces.

Pet owners in Singapore should read the National Parks Board’s guidelines carefully and follow them to keep their cats and dogs safe. By keeping animals indoors or in secure outdoor areas, owners can help prevent future falls and avoid costly penalties.
