Seoul police are pressing charges against a 60‑year‑old former boss after a brutal stabbing at his former office in eastern Seoul.
The suspect, named Jo, is accused of attacking two women in their 50s and 60s and a man in his 70s on Tuesday inside the redevelopment‑cooperative office in Cheonho‑dong, Gangdong Ward. One of the victims died at a hospital the next day from a fatal neck injury, while the other two are still being treated.
Police first filed an arrest warrant for attempted murder. After the victim’s death, they added a murder charge and are considering a retaliatory‑murder charge, which could carry a minimum sentence of 10 years if Jo is convicted.
Jo was the cooperative’s chief until July, when he was dismissed while under investigation for sexual assault. He was later indicted for the alleged misconduct.
Authorities say the motive may be tied to his dismissal, but they are still looking into other possible causes. Police praised two neighbors who helped catch Jo at the scene and plan to award them for their cooperation.
