In Pakistan’s Balochistan region, enforced disappearances continue to spark outrage as security forces allegedly abduct more Baloch individuals. A prominent human rights group, Paank from the Baloch National Movement, reported three fresh cases over the weekend, highlighting the ongoing crackdown that has drawn global concern.
The latest incident involved Sameer Baloch, a resident of Kuldan Jiwani in Gwadar district. On the night of September 28, Pakistani army personnel picked him up from Safoora Goth in Karachi, Sindh, Paank said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Sameer, son of Nusheerwan, vanished without a trace,” the group noted, adding that his family has no idea where he is.
Just a day earlier, on September 27, two other Baloch men—Altaf Baloch and Ghalib Baloch—disappeared from their homes in Kunchiti Dasht, Kech district, during a raid by Pakistani security forces. Altaf is the son of Haibatan Baloch, while Ghalib’s father is Ayoub Baloch. Paank shared details on X, describing how the forces stormed the area and took the men away.
These cases add to a string of troubling abductions. Earlier in the week, on September 24, shopkeeper Zakir Ali went missing from his neighborhood in Lyari, Karachi. The son of Muhammad Ibrahim, Zakir lives on Nokein Lane, and Paank emphasized that his whereabouts are still unknown after security forces grabbed him.
Paank also spotlighted the abduction of 17-year-old Siraj Baloch, a first-year student from Balgatar in Kech district. On Friday, armed men in a surf vehicle attacked him near Star Plus Market in Turbat city, hitting him on the head with a gun before dragging him away in broad daylight. Siraj had traveled to Turbat for school-related reasons, the group said.
This wave of enforced disappearances in Balochistan has hit students especially hard, Paank warned. The organization called on the international community to step in, hold Pakistan’s government and law enforcement accountable, and push for an end to using these tactics as a tool of repression against the Baloch people. As tensions rise, families across the region are left searching for answers and justice.
