US President Donald Trump gathered leaders from several Muslim-majority countries for a key meeting on the Gaza war during the UN General Assembly in New York. The session, held on Tuesday, included Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
The group focused on diplomatic moves, political steps, and humanitarian aid to stop the ongoing Gaza conflict. They discussed ways to de-escalate tensions, secure a ceasefire in Gaza, and build lasting peace in the region.
Trump kicked off the talks by calling it his “most important meeting” of the day. “This is the one that’s very important to me, because we’re going to end something that you have probably never started,” he said. “We want to end the war in Gaza. We are going to end it. Maybe we can end it right now.”
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim praised Trump for organizing the meeting. “The only reason we are here is to stop the war and bring the hostages back,” he told Trump. “We count on you and your leadership to end this war and help the people of Gaza.” Arab leaders made it clear they were looking to Trump for help in resolving the crisis.
When the meeting wrapped up, Trump described it as a “very good meeting” but skipped questions from reporters.
Earlier that day, Trump spoke at the UN General Assembly and put the blame on Hamas for turning down “reasonable offers” for peace. He also slammed recent moves by some countries to recognize a Palestinian state. “We can’t forget October 7,” Trump said, referring to the Hamas attack on Israel. “As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities. Those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now. Just release the hostages now.”
This week alone, 10 nations—including Australia, Canada, France, Portugal, and the United Kingdom—have officially recognized a Palestinian state, adding fuel to the international debate over the Gaza war and Middle East peace efforts.
