LS Speaker Birla to inaugurate Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meet in Kohima on Nov 10

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, will open the 22nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region – Zone‑III conference in Kohima on Nov. 10. The event, a two‑day gathering from Nov. 10‑11, draws leaders from the eight northeastern states, including MPs and legislators from the region.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer will also attend the inauguration. The conference’s focus is “Policy, Progress & People: Legislatures as Catalysts of Change.” Sub‑themes cover the role of legislatures in building a developed India and tackle climate change, drawn from recent cloudbursts and landslides in the northeast.

The closing ceremony will be led by Harivansh, with thanks given by Thomas A. Sangma, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker, and S. Toiho Yeptho, Nagaland Deputy Speaker. A tree‑planting drive will mark the event’s environmental message.

CPA Zone‑III has boosted regional cooperation through the India‑ASEAN Vision for Trade and Development, promoted infrastructure projects, and pushed for cultural exchanges. It also advances digitalisation of parliamentary work via the National eVidhan Application (NeVA), making legislative processes more accessible and inclusive.
