British police arrested two men on suspicion of murder after the former Lostprophets singer, Ian Watkins, was stabbed to death inside HMP Wakefield, a prison in West Yorkshire.
The killing took place on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 11. Watkins, 48, was already serving a 29‑year sentence for serious child‑sexual‑offense crimes. When emergency services arrived, they found the former rock star dead at the scene.
West Yorkshire Police say the investigation is ongoing. The two men, aged 25 and 43, have been taken into custody for questioning.
In 2013, Watkins pleaded guilty in Cardiff Crown Court to 13 serious charges, including attempting to rape a baby, sexual touching of a one‑year‑old, encouraging a fan to abuse a child and creating child pornography. Judge John Royce described him as a “manipulative and dangerous sexual predator” who used his fame to satisfy his “insatiable lust.”
After Watkins’ arrest, Lostprophets announced they would disband, ending the Welsh band’s run that once topped the UK charts in 2006 with the album Liberation Transmission.
Police are working to uncover the motives behind the prison stabbing and to bring the arrested men to justice in the wake of this shocking incident.
