Shashank Singh Shares Secrets of Being an IPL Finisher Like MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh
Bengaluru, September 16: Punjab Kings’ explosive batter Shashank Singh knows what it takes to be a true IPL finisher. He says you need to stay dynamic, think on your feet, and handle the heat of the moment like pros such as MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, and Yuvraj Singh.
Shashank has been on fire in the death overs since IPL 2024. According to ESPNcricinfo, he smashed 377 runs in those nail-biting last overs across 20 innings. His average? A solid 53.85, with a blistering strike rate of 201.60. In just 187 balls, he hit 27 fours and 25 sixes, getting out only seven times. That puts him ahead of big names like Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Shivam Dube in IPL finishing stats.
This aggressive middle-order star has bounced around IPL teams, playing for Delhi Daredevils in 2017, Rajasthan Royals in 2019, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022. Over 33 IPL innings, Shashank has racked up 773 runs at an average of 40.68. His top score is 68 not out, and he’s notched five half-centuries, proving his knack for closing games.
IPL 2025 was his breakout year. He scored 350 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 153.50, helping Punjab Kings reach the final. His standout moment? An unbeaten 61 in the final against RCB, sealing a thrilling win.
Talking about the finisher’s role, Shashank keeps it real: "A finisher has to be dynamic. You adapt to the situation, stay smart, and manage the pressure. I look up to Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni), who’s nailed this for India in so many innings. Hardik Pandya does it now, and Yuvi paaji (Yuvraj Singh) – the way he handled pressure in the World Cup we won? Huge credit to him."
In IPL 2025 death overs (16-20), Shashank topped the charts with 242 runs in 11 innings. He averaged 60.50 at a strike rate of 192.06, smashing 18 fours and 14 sixes in 126 balls. He faced just 25 dot balls and got out only four times – pure finisher magic.
Coming in second was Mumbai Indians’ Naman Dhir with 190 runs in 11 innings, averaging 27.14 at a strike rate of 195.87. He hit 19 fours and 10 sixes in 97 balls, with 24 dots and four dismissals.
Shashank first grabbed headlines in IPL 2024 with an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls against Gujarat Titans for Punjab Kings. Staying not out is the ultimate finisher badge, and in IPL 2025, he did it in 7 out of 14 innings – more than anyone else. No wonder he’s the talk of IPL cricket fans!
