Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya wants sports to become a daily part of life in every Indian home. Speaking at the Sportstar x KPMG PLAYCOM Business of Sports Summit 2025 in New Delhi, he urged everyone to ignite a passion for sports in children across the country.
“Every street in Bharat should turn into a sporting arena, and our national flag should fly high on every podium,” Mandaviya said. He highlighted how sports in India go beyond games—they’re woven into our culture, serve as a profession, entertain millions, and boost the economy.
Mandaviya stressed turning sports into a massive people’s movement that touches every citizen. He pointed to fun initiatives like Sundays on Cycles as great ways to spark grassroots interest and build a sporting culture right from households.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has rolled out key reforms in the sports ecosystem. Programs like Fit India and Khelo India have fired up awareness and excitement among people, he noted. “Our sports reforms must keep evolving. India has huge talent—we just need to give it opportunities, nurture it, and show respect,” Mandaviya added.
He shared an ambitious plan to propel India into the world’s top five sporting nations. The government is crafting 10-year and 25-year strategies to revamp the sports landscape, aligning with the vision of a developed Viksit Bharat.
A big focus is on strong governance. Mandaviya praised the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, as a game-changer. This law puts athletes first, sets up quick ways to resolve disputes, and ensures women get key roles in decision-making. “Women shouldn’t just play—they need platforms to lead and speak up,” he emphasized.
The minister also unveiled the Khelo Bharat Niti 2025, shaped by wide consultations and lessons from global sports policies. “It’s designed to be inclusive, performance-driven, and ready for the future, always keeping India’s interests at heart,” he said.
To spot and support young talent early, Mandaviya called for expanding sports academies and professional leagues nationwide. He wrapped up by rallying everyone: government, businesses, institutions, and citizens must team up to make India a sporting superpower.
At the event in Bharat Mandapam, Mandaviya also kicked off the Sports Tech and Manufacturing Expo. Dignitaries like IOA President PT Usha, The Hindu Group Chairperson Nirmala Lakshman, and Sportstar Editor Ayon Sengupta joined the occasion.
