Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep regret over a recent missile strike on Hamas targets in Qatar during a three-way phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The call happened on Monday local time in Washington, D.C., as the White House announced.
Netanyahu apologized for the unintended death of a Qatari serviceman in the strike, which targeted Hamas leadership amid hostage negotiations. He assured the leaders that Israel won’t violate Qatari sovereignty with such attacks again. Qatari Prime Minister Al Thani welcomed the promise and highlighted Qatar’s ongoing role in boosting regional security and stability. Netanyahu echoed that commitment.
The three leaders agreed to create a new trilateral group to improve communication, settle past disputes, and work together against threats. They aim to clear up misunderstandings and build on their strong ties with the United States for a more secure Middle East. Trump pushed for better Israel-Qatar relations after years of tensions and praised both sides for stepping up toward peace.
The call also touched on ways to end the Gaza war, release hostages, and foster greater understanding between Israel and Qatar.
Earlier that day, the White House unveiled a detailed peace plan to resolve the two-year Gaza conflict, following a meeting between Trump and Netanyahu. The proposal envisions Gaza as a deradicalized, terror-free area that no longer threatens neighbors. It calls for rebuilding the region to benefit Gaza’s people, who have endured immense suffering.
Under the plan, if both Israel and Hamas agree, the war stops right away. Israeli forces would pull back to agreed lines, halt all military actions like airstrikes and shelling, and freeze battle lines until full withdrawal conditions are met. Within 72 hours of Israel’s public acceptance, all hostages—living or deceased—would return.
In exchange, once hostages are freed, Israel would release 250 prisoners serving life sentences, plus 1,700 Gazans detained after October 7, 2023, including all women and children in that group. For every set of Israeli hostage remains released, Israel would return the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.
Trump hailed the plan as a path to lasting peace and security in the Middle East.
