A 25-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a stranger stabbed him several times on a New York City subway train in Queens late Sunday night, authorities say.
The attack happened around 11:30 p.m. on a Manhattan-bound 7 train near the 111th Street station in Corona. Police report that the two men, who didn’t know each other, argued before things turned violent. The attacker came up from behind and struck the victim once in the neck and twice in the back with some kind of sharp object—details on the weapon are still unclear.
First responders rushed the man to New York Presbyterian/Queens Hospital. He started out in stable condition, but his injuries worsened, and he’s now listed as critical.
NYPD detectives released a surveillance photo of the suspect, showing him smiling on the train. He’s wearing a black Champion hoodie pulled up over his head, light-colored pants, and black sneakers. The subway stabbing has sparked a quick manhunt in Queens, as police hunt for leads in this random train assault.
