Abdullah bin Zayed leads UAE delegation at 80th session of UN General Assembly in New York

The United Arab Emirates is sending a high-powered delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, running from September 22 to 29, 2025. Leading the group is Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This UNGA 80 event brings together world leaders to tackle big global issues. The UAE team plans to connect with other countries, UN officials, and key partners. Their focus? Finding team-based fixes for threats to international peace and security, while boosting collective efforts on today’s toughest challenges.

The UAE’s goals at this session highlight its push for stronger multilateral action. They want to reform the United Nations to make it work better and faster. Top priorities include ramping up humanitarian aid, resolving conflicts, promoting peaceful living, empowering women in peace and security roles, driving sustainable development, and teaming up on climate change and water crises.

Abdullah bin Zayed stressed the power of global teamwork in his remarks. “International cooperation plays a key role in solving our pressing challenges,” he said. He reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to building a more peaceful, sustainable, and inclusive world through joint efforts.

He also backed the UN80 Initiative, which aims to make the UN more effective in upholding its charter and international law principles. Looking ahead, Abdullah added, “For the next eight decades, we need a resilient, efficient UN that leads action, unites us, and turns challenges into opportunities for future generations.”

The delegation won’t just attend the main assembly—they’ll join several high-level events too. These include the Two-State Solution Conference, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit, celebrations for the UN’s 80th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and the kickoff of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance.

UAE Ambassador to the UN, Mohamed Abushahab, echoed these points. “Our priorities here follow a clear vision: Effective multilateralism is the key to handling the world’s linked crises,” he said. He called the General Assembly a vital stage for urgent issues like peace threats and roadblocks to the Sustainable Development Goals. “Strengthening multilateralism and the UN Charter isn’t optional—it’s essential for a safer, fairer future,” Abushahab added. He highlighted the UAE’s focus on shared solutions as a core part of its diplomacy.

Joining Abdullah bin Zayed on the delegation are top officials like Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President; Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change; Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment; Sana Suhail, Minister of Family; Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State; Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State; and Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State.
