A tragic shooting at a New Hampshire country club wedding turned a joyful night into horror when 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau opened fire, killing one guest and wounding two others.
The incident happened Saturday evening at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua. Nadeau faces second-degree murder charges in the death of 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, according to New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella. Authorities expect more charges related to the injured victims, whose names they haven’t released yet.
Around 7:30 p.m., Nadeau burst into the private wedding reception and fired multiple shots from a handgun. Witnesses say he shouted “free Palestine” and “the children are safe” before the gunfire erupted. Tom Bartelson, who attended his nephew’s wedding, described the chaos to the Associated Press. “We were all together dancing for the bride and groom when everything went crazy,” Bartelson said. “We heard about six shots, everyone ducked for cover, and then we rushed to safe spots.”
Bartelson added that guests focused on protecting their families amid the panic. “We kept everybody down and tried to find safe places,” he recalled. Officials say they found no clear link between Nadeau and the victims.
Police arrested Nadeau right at the scene. Video from the club confirmed he acted alone, and Nashua police shared that update on X (formerly Twitter) about two hours later. Ambulances rushed the wounded to hospitals, and authorities set up a nearby hotel as a reunification center for shaken family and friends.
Nadeau heads to arraignment Monday in Nashua’s Ninth Circuit Court. The New Hampshire shooting has left the community reeling, with investigators still piecing together what led to the violence at the wedding reception.
