Arizona official who called Tom Hanks a ‘pedo’ accused of offering man a job for sex, then kidnapping his child

A councilwoman in Avondale, Arizona has been sued after she allegedly offered a job in exchange for sex and then took a teenage daughter from a man who declined her advances. The lawsuit names the city official as Jeanette Garcia, who reportedly was intoxicated when she approached the prospective employee at a post‑election celebration in Goodyear on November 14, 2024. Garcia, then working for Turning Point USA (TPUSA), supposedly offered the man a gig that would have him promoting the organization’s candidates in upcoming elections. He was a TPUSA employee who reported to Garcia.

According to the legal filing, the father—identified only in the documents as “father John Doe”—rejected the councilwoman’s proposition several times. Frustrated, he left the restaurant after midnight, only to return a half‑hour later and discover his 14‑year‑old daughter was missing. He later learned from sheriff’s officers that his daughter was with Garcia. The father claims he had to call her and Garcia twice in front of deputies before finally reaching her at about 2:20 a.m. The lawsuit says Garcia, supposedly “extremely intoxicated,” convinced the girl that her father might become violent and persuaded her to get in a car with a few adults.

The single dad asserts that Garcia took his child without consent and that law enforcement was somehow complicit. No criminal charges have been filed against her. The next day, the daughter’s grandmother contacted Garcia through an unfamiliar phone number and arranged for the girl to be picked up at a restaurant. The court documents detail how the incident left the teenager depressed, terrified to leave her room, with a dip in grades and a drop in participation in extracurricular activities.

Garcia has not been new to controversy. In March, the Avondale City Council censured her after she labeled actor Tom Hanks a “pedo” on social media. She later clarified that she meant the Spanish word for “fart,” not a slur for “pedophile.” The councilwoman has declined to comment, and Turning Point has also not responded to inquiries. In a statement to AzFamily.com, Garcia denied all accusations. She said, “I am aware of the outrageous and false accusations being made about me. Let me be very clear: these claims are untrue. I have never kidnapped anyone, never harmed anyone, and never solicited anything inappropriate, ever.”
