‘Armed and dangerous’ runaway inmate orders Uber to flee from Georgia authorities

A 52‑year‑old inmate in Georgia, Timothy Shane, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for a medical check after he tried to take his own life while still in prison. Authorities say he was marked as “armed and dangerous” and was on the run when he left the hospital in the early hours of Monday.

Shane escaped on foot, stole an SUV and a handgun, crashed the vehicle and abandoned it. In the midst of his escape he even called an Uber, ordering a ride to a residence in south Rockdale. When police searched that address, they found no trace of him.

Earlier video footage shows him stealing a silver Pontiac Grand Prix near Mercedes‑Benz Stadium. The vehicle was later turned up abandoned in front of a Publix in Henry County. Shane, who stands about 5‑foot‑9 with a buzz cut, was last photographed wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, dark blue pants and having slipped in a pair of shoes.

He has a prior record of escape attempts and multiple felony charges involving drugs and weapons, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators still don’t know how he slipped out of the hospital, but they continue to consider him “armed and dangerous.”
