On Tuesday, Army officials announced that a Texas military medical center‑based gynecologist—Maj. Blaine McGraw, 47—has been charged with secretly filming and photographing dozens of female patients during routine exams. The accusations cover a period from January through December and involve 44 patients treated at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood. The Army Office of Special Trials listed 54 counts of indecent visual recording, five charges of conduct unbecoming of an officer, willful disregard of a superior’s orders and a false statement.
Military investigators said one patient was recorded while in her home off the base. McGraw was first removed from all duties involving patient care and access to electronic health records on Oct. 17, after a woman identified as “Jane Doe” filed a civil suit alleging repeated groping and covert filming during a pelvic and breast examination. CNN reported that the same patient also accused him of other sexual misconduct.
He was jailed on Dec. 2 for violating a commander’s orders amid a string of such allegations, and was formally arrested more than a week later. A Fort Hood spokesperson said the criminal investigation is still underway and that McGraw is in pretrial confinement at Bell County Jail in Belton.
McGraw’s alleged misconduct is not limited to Fort Hood. He allegedly abused patients during his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii from 2019 to 2023. Army officials have informed nearly 3,000 patients treated at both military bases and requested they complete a questionnaire about their encounters.
Over 100 women have come forward, claiming they were victims of McGraw’s disturbing conduct. Attorney Andrew Cobos, who represents 75 of the accusers, said, “My clients are relieved,” to the Military Times. “For the first time since October 17, they feel safe knowing that McGraw is in jail. Major McGraw demonstrated that he could not be trusted. He disobeyed orders. He should remain confined until he has been tried for his actions.”
The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division has sifted through more than half a terabyte of digital media and conducted hundreds of interviews. McGraw now faces the full range of charges while awaiting trial.
