Billionaire Illinois governor JB Pritzker and his wife earned a whopping $10.7 million in taxable income last year, according to tax documents released by his campaign. The total includes a $1.4 million jackpot he won playing blackjack in Las Vegas while on vacation with his wife and friends, the Pritzker spokesperson told NBC.
The governor plans to donate that $1.4 million to charity. The tax filings show the couple paid $1.6 million in federal taxes—a $300,000 rise from the previous year—and $512,120 in state taxes, up $358,000 from 2023. Their family trusts also paid $30.2 million in federal tax and $4.5 million in state tax last year, down from the $50 million and $10 million paid in 2023.
Pritzker’s wealth is tied to the Hyatt family fortune; Forbes estimates his net worth at about $3.9 billion, a jump of roughly $200 million from this past year. The governor has never taken a salary since he took office in 2019. Instead, his wealth fuels his campaigns and high‑profile philanthropy.
In 2024, the Pritzkers reported $4.2 million in capital gains and donated $3.3 million to charity, up from $1.65 million the previous year. Their tax returns also reveal a dramatic shift in income over the last decade: $18.5 million in 2021, dropping to $2.3 million in 2022 and $3.2 million in 2023, before climbing again in 2024.
Pritzker’s campaign has long operated in the black, with a 2018 funding haul of $170 million and a staggering $159 million spent on his 2022 reelection bid—figures that some estimates even put higher, reaching over $350 million.
The governor officially launched his third‑term run in June. While he hasn’t released his full federal and state tax returns, the available data point to a multimillion‑dollar inflow from a high‑stakes Vegas win and a continuing strategy of leveraging personal wealth for political influence.
