Westchester County police say three men broke into the Playland amusement park on the night of Sept. 23, 2025, and caused widespread damage before leaving by boat. The trio, caught on the park’s security cameras, slipped onto the 280‑acre waterfront on a small boat at midnight, jumped a fence and headed straight for the park’s boardwalk.
Inside, they ransacked an electrical room, cutting fiber‑optic cables, then wandered the rides while stealing about 200 stuffed animals. The animals were wrapped in plastic bags and dumped inside the park before the men checked out the next morning. Witness footage also shows them attempting to toss a portable photo booth off the boardwalk, though they failed and left the equipment standing.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins called the incident “infuriating and heartbreaking.” “Being young is one thing. Being destructive is another,” Jenkins said. He urged anyone who can identify the suspects to contact the county’s general investigations unit at 914‑864‑7916 or 1‑800‑898‑TIPS.
This act of vandalism follows a similar June event that left the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse scarred by fire and costing the community about $100,000 in repairs. In that case, three teens—two from White Plains and Harrison and an uncharged 17‑year‑old—were arrested and charged for breaking in, stealing items, and setting the lighthouse ablaze.
Police continue to investigate the Playland incident and hope public tips will help bring the culprits to justice.
