The intense manhunt for the suspect linked to Saturday’s deadly shooting at Brown University has now shifted to Salem, New Hampshire, after authorities discovered a suspicious vehicle near a storage facility, according to reports and law enforcement sources.
Late Thursday, heavily armed police surrounded a parked car in Salem that reportedly matched the make and model of a vehicle believed to have been seen near both the Ivy League campus shooting and the killing of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro in Brookline, Boston 25 News and CBS News reported.
The search operation also extended into an Extra Space Storage facility on Hampshire Road, with multiple agencies involved, including Providence Police officers and at least one FBI negotiator, local media said.
The area where police activity is concentrated lies about 84 miles from Providence, Rhode Island, where the suspect allegedly opened fire inside a classroom at Brown University before fleeing into nearby neighborhoods.
Sources previously told The Post that investigators have been looking into a possible connection between the mass shooting and the killing of Loureiro, a 47-year-old physicist and fusion science expert, which occurred two days later.
While authorities have reportedly identified a suspect in the Brown University attack that killed two students and injured nine others, the individual’s name has not yet been made public. A warrant has also been issued for his arrest following a six-day search, sources said.
Police have released several low-quality surveillance images believed to show the suspect, but details about the gunman and a possible motive have remained limited as the investigation continues.
The victims of the Brown University shooting were identified as Ella Cook, 19, a sophomore from Alabama and vice president of the school’s Republican club, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, an Uzbek American freshman.
Loureiro, an MIT professor, was rushed to a nearby hospital after being shot inside his home in a quiet suburb outside Boston and was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
Brown University and MIT are located less than 50 miles apart, a detail that continues to draw scrutiny as investigators work to determine whether the two cases are connected.
