Senior Congress leaders are pouring into Patna, Bihar, ahead of a key Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting set for Wednesday. With Bihar Assembly elections looming by the end of 2025, this gathering feels like a big moment for the party’s strategy in the state.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah touched down at Patna airport on Tuesday to join the top decision-makers. Congress MP Randeep Surjewala also arrived and chatted with reporters about Bihar’s storied place in Indian politics. “The land of Bihar has always made history, from Champaran to today,” Surjewala said. He added that the decisions from the CWC, led by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, could have a huge impact nationwide.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel showed up too, nodding to Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments on caste census and vote theft. “Rahul dropped two bombs last month—on caste census and vote theft. That’s the atomic bomb. Now we’re waiting for the hydrogen bomb,” Baghel remarked, hinting at bolder moves ahead.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has been gearing up for the Patna meet, where leaders will tackle pressing issues before the Bihar polls. The session comes as the party ramps up a nationwide protest against alleged vote tampering, complete with a signature drive across India. Bihar’s political weight makes the elections a hot topic, but Venugopal stressed it’s not all about voting. “We’re holding the CWC in Patna—we do these often,” he told . “We’ll discuss the national agitation on vote theft, the signature campaign, and other big political matters. Of course, Bihar elections will come up too.”
The meeting kicks off at Sadaqat Ashram, the Congress headquarters in Patna. Expect to see Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Ram, state in-charge Krishna Allavaru, and Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan, among others.
Allavaru previewed the talks during a Monday press conference, pointing to Bihar’s challenges like rising unemployment, inflation, crime, and violence against women. He also touched on national headaches, including what he called a “ceasefire or surrender” to U.S. President Donald Trump. “Congress will speak about Bihar right here in Bihar, but we’ll also address the whole nation,” Allavaru said. The party aims to blend local woes with broader concerns in this crucial strategy session.
