Bryan Kohberger now moaning about type of bananas he gets in prison: ‘You can’t make this stuff up’

Cold‑blooded killer Bryan Kohberger is truly going bananas over his prison food.

The quadruple murderer is adding another complaint to the list of grievances he’s filed while serving a life term in Idaho’s maximum‑security facility—this time whining about the un‑peel-ing bananas he receives.

Kohberger, who turned 31 behind bars last week, has been consistently criticizing conditions at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, where he’s been housed for four months since he was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing four University of Idaho students in 2022.

Now he’s “complaining about the type of bananas he’s being served,” says Chris McDonough, a retired homicide detective who works with the Cold Case Foundation, whom the Daily Mail interviewed.

“They’re not the kind that he likes,” McDonough explained. “I’m not sure if that means they may have bruises on them and he doesn’t like that or if there is a particular type of banana that he likes. But he’s complaining about the food he’s getting.”

“You can’t make this stuff up, right? The guy is a quadruple killer and he’s complaining about his bananas not being the type that he likes.”

Since arriving at the Kuna prison, Kohberger has filed at least five formal complaints, so the staff has largely ignored his latest tirade, McDonough said.

“The prison is saying well, deal with it,” the former cop added.

The ex‑criminology PhD student has not adjusted to life in the cell block and asked to be moved to another cell after his fellow inmates launched a relentless harassment campaign when he was first assigned in August.

Neighbors would take turns shouting into the vents that face his room, and Kohberger told staff he couldn’t sleep, McDonough recalled.

Shortly after that, he filed another grievance claiming a threat of sexual abuse. In an August 4 letter, he said an inmate threatened to “bitch f–k” him and another threatened to “the only a– we’ll be eating is Kohberger’s.”

During an August 12 housing placement hearing, a panel of three decided he should remain separate from the general population “for the protection of staff and residents, as well as for his protection,” the Idaho Statesman reported.

He objected to “the type of cell that he’s in, the size of the cell and where it’s located,” McDonough said.

McDonough, who has spent his career studying predatory behaviors, believes Kohberger thinks his notoriety entitles him to special treatment behind bars—meaning his grumbling may have no end.

“Kohberger is going to keep pushing the envelope and pushing the boundaries as far as he can get them,” McDonough added.

“It’s about power and control,” the retired detective said. “He was a nobody until he murdered four people… he was irrelevant to the world.”

“Now he’s Bryan Kohberger who has slaughtered four people. And, because he didn’t have to stand up in court and tell the world how brutal these crimes were, he holds the cards. And he’s trying to leverage that,” McDonough said of the perverse mindset.

In July, Kohberger accepted a surprise plea deal, admitting to killing Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Mogen on November 13, 2022 while they slept in an off‑campus house in Moscow.

The deal, reached just weeks before his high‑profile trial was set to begin, meant he avoided the possibility of the death penalty.
