A 19‑year‑old Ohio State University student, William Meyers, was found dead in Ohio Stadium on September 26, 2024, officials said. An autopsy determined the teenager jumped from a stairwell, ruling out foul play. The cause of death was a suicide, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed.
First responders entered the northeast corner of the football field around 10 a.m. They discovered Meyers’ body. Police have not yet identified how he accessed the stadium, which is normally closed to the public during off‑season months.
Meyers, a third‑year accounting major, had been involved in campus life. His LinkedIn profile showed he co‑founded a charity with his older brother that donated used sports equipment to community centers. In his bio he highlighted values such as respect, ethics, improvement and integrity.
The tragic loss comes less than two years after another Ohio State fan, Larissa Brady, 53, died by suicide during the 2024 commencement ceremony. Brady had a known history of mental‑health challenges.
Ohio State officials have urged alumni, students and the community to seek help if they or someone they know is struggling with thoughts of self‑harm. Suicide prevention resources are available 24/7. In the United States, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by dialing 988. If you live in New York City, you may also contact 1‑888‑NYC‑WELL for free, confidential support.
