President Donald Trump and Elon Musk put their differences aside at the funeral of slain activist Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA. The two leaders shared a heartfelt moment that seemed to bury the hatchet, with Trump even telling Musk he’d missed him since their public fallout.
The reunion happened Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, where about 78,000 people gathered to honor Kirk. Photos showed Trump and Musk shaking hands in a private box, and both Musk and the White House posted the images online with the simple caption: “For Charlie.”
A lip reader named Nicola Hickling caught the details of their chat for the Daily Mail. As they sat side by side, Trump kicked things off by asking Musk, “How are you doing?” He then reportedly said, “So Elon, I’ve heard you wanted to chat. Let’s try and work out how to get back on track.” When Musk nodded, Trump added, “I’ve missed you.”
This comes after a messy split between the two. Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in late May 2025. He soon turned against Trump’s administration, blasting the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” on social media. Musk fired off insults, even calling for Trump’s impeachment and pushing for a new political party to rival the Republicans.
Trump hit back hard, threatening to cut Musk’s government contracts and labeling his criticism as “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” Their once-close alliance had crumbled fast, and they hadn’t been seen together since.
The emotional setting at Charlie Kirk’s memorial—where Kirk’s legacy as a conservative youth leader shone through—seemed to inspire the Trump-Musk reconciliation. Fans of both men are buzzing about whether this handshake signals a real thaw in their relationship.
