Erika Kirk says that after her husband’s death her 3‑year‑old daughter keeps asking where “daddy” is. In a tearful interview on Fox News the widow explained how she turns the question into a lesson about hope.
“When she says ‘where’s daddy?’, I tell her that daddy is in the sky,” Erika said. “I let her know that if she wants to talk he’s listening. I also say, ‘he’s in heaven,’ and she goes, ‘do you think I could go there someday?’” She added, “We’ll all go one day.”
Kirk and Erika have two children. Their son turned one in May, and their daughter turned three in August. The family lost its patriarch on Sept. 10, when Charlie Kirk, the 31‑year‑old founder of Turning Point USA, was shot twice in a single bullet to the neck while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. According to police, the alleged gunman, 22‑year‑old Tyler Robinson, was arrested days later and faces aggravated murder charges and possible death penalty by firing squad.
In the interview, Erika recalled her husband’s calm smile. “I saw his smirk when I walked into the room,” she said. “It told me that he wouldn’t suffer. It was a sign that the movement he built would survive, even if his body was taken.”
The killing was filmed from multiple angles and widely shared online, adding to the already‑tightening national dialogue around political violence. Erika’s story, told in plain language, has already drawn attention as communities search for ways to cope with loss.
The complete interview with Erika will air tonight at 8 p.m. on Jesse Watters Primetime. The conversation offers a stark look at how a grieving mother reassures her family while she herself deals with the loss of a public figure.
