Shots were fired at the Coast Guard Base in Alameda, California, when a U‑Haul truck drove past the gate and then tried to back into the entrance on Thursday night. Security officers on duty heard the vehicle ignore multiple verbal orders from the guard posts before the driver pushed the truck into the area.

Security personnel reacted quickly. They opened fire, discharging several live rounds after the U‑Haul’s driver failed to stop and then attempted to reverse toward the base’s entrance. The Coast Guard said the shots were fired because the vehicle’s actions threatened the safety of the Coast Guard and security staff.

Fortunately, no Coast Guard or security personnel were hurt. Investigations are ongoing to determine why the driver ignored orders and how the incident unfolded. The incident highlights the ever‑present risk of violent confrontation at military installations, especially when civilian vehicles approach restricted areas.
