Fort Lewis College in Colorado found itself amid a heated debate this month when a campus meeting about approving a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter turned ugly.
According to a campus police report, Megan Elizabeth Hope Mollett—known as Nova and who uses they/them pronouns—was caught on video spitting a plastic cup at local resident Dave Peters after Peters walked in with his phone recording the student who was “booing and yelling.” Peters, a 66‑year‑old former La Plata County GOP chair and Chevron executive, says he didn’t want criminal charges filed but wants the university to discipline Mollett.
The meeting drew about 70 people, many with divergent political views. After voting in an emergency session, the student government reversed its earlier decision to deny the TPUSA chapter, a move that angered key figures on campus, including retired anthropology professor David Kozak. Kozak was seen on camera shouting “you’re a Nazi” at the meeting’s conclusion, and he also slapped the person filming the event.
When police approached Mollett, the officer explained that the student could face harassment or assault charges but urged her to calm down and take a breath. Mollett was ultimately released on a warning instead of going to court.
Peters told Fox News Digital that he supports Charlie Kirk’s free‑speech mission and that he was moved by the support shown for the TPUSA group. He described an earlier part of the meeting in which student supporters broke into applause while other attendees booed, and he later recounted an exchange with a former professor who berated him as “fascist.”
Neither Mollett nor Kozak responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. The university, in a statement to the same outlet, reiterated that all students must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and that it values free speech while also enforcing civility and safety. When asked if disciplinary action would follow, a Fort Lewis spokesperson declined to disclose specific details, citing FERPA privacy protections but emphasized that the college takes allegations of misconduct seriously and has established procedures.
Students and alumni are invited to stay informed as the issue develops.
