‘Devil’ son who pushed 64-year-old mom out of third-story window learns fate after she testifies against him

A 37‑year‑old man named George Tsintzelis will be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of attempted murder. He is accused of holding a knife to his 64‑year‑old mother’s throat and then shoving her out of a third‑story window in a Queens apartment during a dispute over money.

Court officials announced the verdict on Monday, referring to the incident that occurred on November 15, 2024. The prosecution said that the victim, Paraskevi Tsintzelis, was badly injured but survived the fall and ultimately decided to testify against her son.

“Paraskevi Tsintzelis was seriously injured but fortunately survived the fall and then made the difficult decision to testify against her son at trial,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz told reporters. “The defendant pulled a knife on his mother before pushing her out of a third‑floor window,” Katz added. “This was a completely senseless act of violence that has torn a family apart.”

Years before the attack, the mother described how her son had terrorised her, subjecting her to beatings and verbal abuse in a relentless pursuit of drug money. That tension reached a breaking point on the day of the assault.

“I had knives in my hand,” Paraskevi said at the time. “He said, ‘Don’t yel or I am gonna stab you.’ He was breaking things—picture frames with my daughter. He wouldn’t leave.” She went on to say, “He was smoking drugs in the house and blowing it in my face. I was afraid of him. Wherever you put the devil, it’s still the devil. I’m sorry for my words.”

In the chaotic moments that followed, the son used her own cane to beat her before dragging her onto the ledge of the third‑story window. “He pushed me hard with both hands,” she recalled. “I don’t know what happened after that. I don’t remember. When I woke up I was in the hospital.”

Paraskevi’s injuries were severe: she suffered bleeding in her brain, a broken left shoulder, a broken arm and leg, internal bleeding, and multiple facial fractures. Still, she survived the terrifying fall.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Peter Vallone, who oversaw the trial, is slated to sentence George Tsintzelis on January 21, when the jury’s charge of up to 25 years in prison will be formally imposed.
