A Texas mom, Alina Gonzalez‑Morelos, turned herself in after driving her Chevy Tahoe into her husband, Leonardo Mendoza, and killing him. The incident happened early in the morning in Pasadena, a town just 15 miles southeast of Houston.
The police say Gonzalez‑Morelos left a party, was drunk, and returned home at about 2 a.m. She and Mendoza had an argument that could have started over a text message. The couple’s children heard the shouting. Mendoza left the house and walked past the parked SUV when a gas‑station witness saw the black Tahoe cross the curb and hit him.
Police were called at roughly 3:30 a.m. for a “fail to stop and render aid” call. They found Mendoza badly injured and rushed him to HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, where he later died. Detectives linked the vehicle to the wife and started a full investigation.
After surrendering, Gonzalez‑Morelos admitted to investigators that she accelerated the SUV onto the sidewalk and ran over her husband. She claimed she only meant to “hit” him, not to kill him, while also admitting she was drunk.
The case now rests with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Gonzalez‑Morelos faces a first‑degree murder charge and is being held at the Harris County Joint Processing Center. The incident has shocked the community and raised questions about domestic disputes, drunk driving, and hit‑and‑run crimes in Texas.
