India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a productive chat with DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem during his visit to New York. The meeting on Tuesday, local time, zeroed in on the latest twists in the global economy and how they’re shaking up connectivity, logistics, and trade.
Jaishankar shared his thoughts on X, the social media platform, saying he was glad to connect with the DP World leader. “Pleased to meet Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO @DP_World today in New York. A good discussion on the current developments in the international economy and their implications for connectivity and logistics,” he posted.
As a key player in global ports and logistics, DP World often shapes how the world moves goods. The two leaders dove into topics like evolving trade routes, supply chains, and stronger economic ties amid these changes.
Just a day earlier, on Monday, Jaishankar joined an informal gathering of European Union foreign ministers on the edges of the United Nations General Assembly, or UNGA, in New York. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas hosted the session, which also brought in ministers from Brazil and Mexico.
The group tackled big global challenges head-on, including multilateralism, the India-EU partnership, the ongoing Ukraine conflict, the tough humanitarian crisis in Gaza, energy security, and shifts in global trade dynamics.
Jaishankar posted about it on X too: “Pleased to meet EU Foreign Ministers at their informal meeting today in New York. Thank EU HRVP Kaja Kallas, for hosting me. An opportunity to have an open exchange of views on multilateralism, India-EU partnership, Ukraine conflict, Gaza, energy and trade.”
EU Ambassador to India Herve Delphin praised Jaishankar’s input, noting how much his take on India’s perspectives mattered. “Special Informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers convened by HRVP Kaja Kallas in NY in margins of UNGA 2025 with the participation of 3 key partners of the EU: India, Brazil, Mexico, to discuss issues of common interest. EAM Jaishankar views on India perspectives are much appreciated,” Delphin wrote.
Kallas wrapped up the Foreign Affairs Council meeting with her own X post, stressing the EU’s steady role. “We’ve just wrapped up the Foreign Affairs Council, joined by Ministers from Brazil, Mexico and India. The message to our partners was simple: the EU is a reliable actor. We support multilateralism, free trade and a world grounded in the UN Charter,” she said.
These talks highlight India’s growing voice in international forums like UNGA, as leaders work to navigate economic shifts, conflicts, and partnerships worldwide.
