Hema Malini shares her and Dharmendra’s long association with Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary
On Sunday, veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini shared a touching tribute to the legendary Lata Mangeshkar on what would have been her 95th birthday. The “Sholay” star posted a stunning fan-made collage on Instagram, along with a video of her favorite memories with the iconic singer, often called the Nightingale of India.
Hema got emotional as she looked back at her deep connection with Lata and her husband, Dharmendra. In her caption, she wrote: “Wonderful memories of the Nightingale of India, melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. One of my fans has made this beautiful collage and I felt very emotional as my and Dharamji’s association with her goes back a long way. Her contribution to my career and to the world are countless. I pay my tribute to her on her birth anniversary @lata_mangeshkar #birthday #latamangeshkar.”
Lata Mangeshkar brought her magical voice to many songs in Hema’s films, creating hits that fans still love today. She also shared a close, affectionate bond with the entire family, teaming up on several projects with Dharmendra over the years.
This isn’t the first time Hema has honored Lata publicly. Back in 2022, when the singer passed away, Hema poured out her heart on social media. She said: “Feb 6 is a dark day for us – the legend who has given us a treasure trove of lilting songs, the Nightingale of India, Lataji, has left us to continue her divine music in heaven. It is a personal loss for me as our affection & admiration for each other was mutual.”
Lata Mangeshkar died on February 6, 2022, at age 92 from multiple organ failure. She had been in the hospital since January 8, battling pneumonia and COVID-19.
Born on September 28, 1929, in Indore, Lata built an amazing career that lasted more than eight decades. She sang in over 2,000 films, working in languages across India and leaving a lasting mark on Bollywood music and Indian cinema.
