Tense Clash in US Senate: FBI Director Kash Patel Blasts Democrat Adam Schiff Over Epstein Files
In a fiery showdown at a US Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, FBI Director Kash Patel locked horns with Democrat Senator Adam Schiff. The heated argument, centered on the Jeffrey Epstein files, turned personal and chaotic, drawing sharp criticism from both sides.
The drama unfolded on Tuesday when Schiff grilled Patel about how the FBI is handling sensitive Epstein documents. Things escalated quickly as Patel fired back, accusing Schiff of trying to weaponize intelligence. "My job is to protect against that from the likes of you," Patel shot back, according to reports from The Hill.
Patel didn’t hold back, calling out Schiff’s past roles in major controversies. "We’ve proven you a liar time and again—in Russiagate, in January 6. You’re the biggest fraud in the Senate, a disgrace and a coward," he said. He even mocked Schiff’s fundraising tactics, labeling him a "political buffoon" obsessed with the Epstein scandal while ignoring what previous administrations did—or didn’t do—about the child sex predator case.
Schiff tried to respond, but Patel’s voice drowned him out. The room grew tense as Committee Chair Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, banged his gavel repeatedly. Ranking member Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, called for calm, but Grassley finally yelled, "Both of you be quiet!"
The spat kicked off with Schiff questioning a bizarre decision by the Bureau of Prisons. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s close associate convicted in the sex trafficking scandal, was suddenly moved to a low-security facility after chatting with the Justice Department. "They did this on their own, right after the interview—completely unrelated, you say? Do you think Americans are stupid?" Schiff demanded.
Patel, a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, hit back hard. Trump has long targeted Schiff, who led the charge in Trump’s first impeachment. The Trump administration is even probing Schiff over alleged favorable home loans in Washington—a claim Schiff denies, calling it political revenge against his top critic.
Post-hearing, Schiff took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Patel. "Kash Patel showed up not to do his job, but to save his own skin. FBI’s hardworking team deserves better than a director performing for one audience—Trump," he posted.
The hearing wasn’t done with drama. Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat from New Jersey, piled on, predicting Patel’s days as FBI Director are numbered. "Your leadership failures make you unfit. You’re not loyal to the Constitution, just to Trump—and we saw how he treats people like you. He’ll cut you loose soon. This might be your last oversight hearing," Booker warned.
