Former Suffolk County “Cop of the Month,” George Trimigliozzi, was handed a two‑year prison sentence after he admitted to running a mob‑linked brothel while still on duty. The 56‑year‑old father of two had earned the Outstanding Officer Award repeatedly during his 18‑year career, but he pled guilty to promoting prostitution and official misconduct, and was sentenced on Monday. Prosecutors noted a startling episode in 2021 when Trimigliozzi abandoned his badge to react to a robbery at the American Girls Spa brothel, allegedly driving his patrol car at 90 mph toward the scene. “It is particularly egregious when a sworn police officer abandons his duty to participate in criminal activity,” said District Attorney Ray Tierney, stressing the breach of public trust. The investigation culminated in the arrests of both Trimigliozzi and Steven Arey, a former Islip school district physical‑education teacher who had worked there for nearly three decades. The pair were involved in a prostitution ring orchestrated by Mafia associate Frank Saggio, who operated several brothels—including the American Girls Spa on Sunrise Highway and the Tunnel of Love in West Babylon—and demanded sex workers pay the organization between $6,000 and $12,000 per month to be allowed to work. Trimigliozzi, Saggio, and Saggio’s girlfriend Dana Ciardullo, 33, who ran the Tunnel of Love, all entered guilty pleas in September. Saggio faces a restitution order of roughly $1.88 million and awaits sentencing, while Ciardullo is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18. In a separate case, Trimigliozzi’s initial sexual‑abuse charges were dropped when he accepted a plea of second‑degree unlawful imprisonment; prosecutors also allege that he sexually abused two women he met on dating apps, using his badge to gain their trust. Steven Arey’s forthcoming court appearance will address an enterprise‑corruption charge and 27 counts of promoting prostitution.
