Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off a major new campaign called ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan’ on September 17. This nationwide drive, announced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, teams up with the 8th edition of Poshan Maah to boost healthcare and nutrition for women, adolescent girls, and children across India.
The campaign brings together the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD). It focuses on delivering preventive, promotive, and curative health services through health camps and facilities nationwide. Meanwhile, the Women and Child Development Ministry will rally women and girls via Anganwadi centres, offering large-scale nutrition counselling and fun recipe demos as part of Poshan Maah.
At its core, the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan aims to ramp up screening, early detection, and treatment for key health issues like anaemia, tuberculosis, sickle cell disease, and non-communicable diseases. It puts a big spotlight on maternal health, child health, and adolescent health, with services including antenatal care, immunisation, menstrual hygiene education, and mental health support.
The initiative also pushes for healthier lifestyles, balanced diets, obesity prevention, and voluntary blood donation drives. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda highlighted that this effort will improve access to quality care and raise awareness for women and children everywhere in India. He urged private hospitals and healthcare providers to join in, calling it a ‘Jan Bhagidaari Abhiyaan’ – a people’s movement that thrives on everyone’s involvement.
From September 17 to October 2, the campaign will roll out over one lakh health camps at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, community health centres, district hospitals, and other government spots. Public figures like central and state ministers, MPs, and local leaders will join the action. On-the-ground heroes such as ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, self-help groups (SHGs), and youth volunteers will mobilise communities and make it happen.
Expect specialist services in gynaecology, paediatrics, dental care, dermatology, eye and ENT care, and mental health, backed by top institutions like AIIMS, defence and railway hospitals, ESIC centres, and even private hospitals. Screening for cancers, anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease gets special attention, especially in tribal areas.
Nutrition efforts will shine through counselling sessions, healthy recipe demos, Annaprashan ceremonies for babies, and the FSSAI’s Eat Right initiative to promote balanced diets. The drive will also highlight digital health tools, like enrolling in Ayushman Bharat schemes, creating ABHA health IDs, and setting up grievance helpdesks at camps.
Don’t miss the AYUSH touch with yoga sessions and Ayurveda consultations. To get youth excited, organisers plan cultural events, awareness rallies, and pledges for blood and organ donation.
This isn’t a solo act – several ministries are pitching in, including Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Education, Youth Affairs, Tribal Affairs, Railways, Defence, and Ayush. It’s a full-on whole-of-government and whole-of-society push to build stronger, healthier families in India.
