Former ‘teacher of the month’ accused of having sex with teen in backseat of her Jeep

A woman who once earned the title of “Teacher of the Month” at a Kansas school is now facing serious allegations. The 30‑year‑old, whose real name is Nicole Hernandez but goes by Nikki Baird, is accused of sexually assaulting a 17‑year‑old male student on multiple occasions, including inside her Jeep’s back seat.

According to a sworn statement that the Wichita Eagle has reviewed, Baird first met the boy while she taught at a regional middle school. After both transferred to Wichita North High School, she allegedly began a grooming campaign. The girl reportedly isolated the student from peers, built a bond, and then turned the relationship sexual in early 2024.

The affidavit describes how physical contact began with gentle touch on the back and shoulders and escalated to forced hugs. Baird reportedly shared her marriage troubles with the teenager, gave him her personal phone number, and wrote affectionate letters, one of which read, “I hope and pray one day I get the chance to be with you” and “I know that I love you.” She also sent him nude photographs and asked him to keep the relationship hidden while saying, “act normal.”

By the senior year, Baird allegedly arranged off‑school meetings, even obtaining the teen’s mother’s permission for a trip to an arts center where she held his hand for the first time. At school, she kissed him on the neck during embraces and repeatedly asked him if he wanted to be kissed, to which he eventually consented, only to feel pressured.

During the last week of classes, Baird allegedly invited him into her office three times, telling him to touch her while encouraging continued contact. On graduation night, she offered the student a sexual encounter in her car after directing him to a random street. The teen confessed to feeling nervous and pressured; Baird reassured him that no one would find out because he had graduated. She also offered him alcohol, which he declined.

While the senior year was still in session, Baird supposedly met the student up to four times a week for sex in the back seat of her Jeep. For a period, the teen broke off the relationship, yet Baird reportedly persisted, even leaving candy at his workplace.

She earned “Teacher of the Month” recognition in January 2020 per a Facebook post from her former school. After being charged on May 22 with four felony counts of unlawful sexual relations with a minor, Baird was released on a $50,000 bond and appeared in court in June. Her arraignment is slated for December 19.
