Hero NYPD cop saves choking baby on side of highway in rush-hour traffic: video

In a heart‑stopping clip, a New York Police Department (NYPD) detective pulled a choking baby from traffic during rush hour.

Detective First Grade Michael Greaney, who reports to Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, was on his way to the precinct at about 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday when he noticed a black BMW darting along the emergency shoulder of the southbound Bronx River Parkway.

While driving an unmarked truck, Greaney turned on his lights and pulled over, as the video posted to TikTok shows.

The driver was a father in a panic, who shouted to the detective, “My baby’s choking,” police said. Greaney rushed into the car, grabbed the tiny girl in a pink onesie, and began repeatedly patting her back on the roadside.

The child’s airway was cleared quickly, and the baby started breathing again, authorities reported.

An on‑looker who happens to be a pediatrician also checked the baby and confirmed she was fine.

The father drove away, and later told police that the girl was doing well.

Greaney is a 17‑year‑old member of the department, having joined the NYPD in July 2008, according to records.
