HGTV star, ‘Trading Spaces’ designer Genevieve Gorder lists her fully renovated NYC duplex home for $4.3M

HGTV designer Genevieve Gorder has put her New York City duplex up for sale.
The East Village co‑op, which sits on two neighboring units, is listed for $4.3 million through Christie’s International Real Estate Group, with Smitha Ramchandani and Christopher Stokes Moseley handling the marketing.

Genevieve first bought one side of the building in 2004, then the other in 2011. She turned the pair of units into a single floor plan that houses a four‑bedroom apartment where she lives with her daughter Bebelle. The townhouse, originally built in the 1850s, spans roughly 2,500 sq ft and has seen dozens of renovations, yet Genevieve kept many original touches.

“I wanted anything attached to the walls to reference the age of the home,” she told Mansion Global. “In my heart, I’m a preservationist, but I don’t want to live like a lady in the 1860s.”

Because the property was once a duplex, it boasts two terraces—one at the front and one at the back—along with shared access to a private park used by residents on the block.

Genevieve first rose to national fame in 2000 as a designer on the original Trading Spaces series on TLC, a show credited with sparking the design‑television boom. After Trading Spaces wrapped in 2007, she joined HGTV in 2009, launching Dear Genevieve and serving as a judge on HGTV Design Star. She later appeared on the 2018 revival of Trading Spaces and the At Home with Genevieve series.

In a February 2018 interview with Fox News, Genevieve explained her advocacy for a “she‑shed” – a private retreat she likened to a man‑cave. “It’s a place to escape to and just disconnect,” she said. “I like to use this analogy: when you’re on an airplane, they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first so you can help everybody else. It’s natural for us to feel like, as a woman, we need to take care of others always. But it’s just as important to take care of ourselves and have that one special place where you can go to and physically restore yourself. Just a nook with little details that count and make those stubbed toes of life much better.”

She added that a “she‑shed” need not be large—just a spot that offers a calm break from stress and anxiety. When designing these havens, she emphasizes proximity to comfort items: “Part of feeling good and relaxed is also making sure everything you need to be comfortable is close.” She includes snacks and drinks to keep the space nurturing, noting her personal preference for Fiber One Bars because they’re “satisfying.” She encourages others to pick whatever helps them feel taken care of.
