People in Lake Elsinore, California, came together Sunday evening for a heartfelt vigil to honor 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The teen went missing from her home in 2024, and her dismembered body turned up last week in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla linked to singer D4vd.
Residents gathered around 7 p.m. local time to remember Celeste, who vanished at just 13 years old. A makeshift memorial now stands on her old street, covered in flowers and touching messages from family and friends. One banner stood out: “Justice for Celeste Rivas.”
Authorities discovered Celeste’s body on September 8 in a Hollywood Hills impound lot. The Tesla sedan belongs to 20-year-old David Anthony Burke, better known as D4vd. Her remains were wrapped in plastic and so decomposed that they weren’t fully intact. Tow yard workers first noticed a foul odor coming from the car, which led to the grim find.
Celeste had a distinctive tattoo on her right index finger saying “Shhh…”—the same as one D4vd sports. Other stars like Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan have similar ink, though. She wore a tube top, black leggings, a yellow bracelet, and matching metal stud earrings when found. The discovery came just one day after her 15th birthday, and police believe she died sometime during her 14th year based on the body’s condition.
Celeste’s mom knew right away it was her daughter when news broke about the body in the trunk. Organizers of a GoFundMe for the family shared the painful update: “As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week. She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.” The family is heartbroken and using the funds to lay her to rest.
D4vd, the rising alt R&B star, was in the middle of a world tour that included a Los Angeles stop this weekend. But he’s canceled the rest of his shows amid the ongoing investigation into the missing teen and the Tesla body discovery. His sold-out Grammy Museum event in LA on Wednesday vanished from the schedule, and several European dates—like his debut in Norway—are off Ticketmaster too.
A spokesperson for the singer told NBC 4 that D4vd is cooperating fully with authorities as they probe the shocking case. The Lake Elsinore community continues to rally around Celeste’s family, seeking answers in this tragic story.
