A CBS Los Angeles crew was filming a police chase that turned into a tragic accident on the 110 Freeway near Chinatown. The officers were trying to stop a thief in a stolen white van when the suspect drove onto the freeway and almost stopped. He jumped out of the moving vehicle and tried to hop over the median, but he slipped and fell into the fast lane.
A passing car couldn’t stop in time and struck the man as soon as he was on his feet. The live camera caught the moment, and an anchor gasped in shock as the footage zoomed back to show other cars unable to brake. When the feed cut back to the studio, the hosts stared in disbelief at the recorded scene of the fatal collision.
Officials say the victim was hit by two cars. Los Angeles police worked to save his life while paramedics from the L.A. Fire Department were en route. By the time EMS arrived, the man’s body had already been covered with a white sheet on the freeway. The scene also involved a dog that was inside the van; animal control was called to confirm whether the animal was injured.
The crash shut down both directions of the 110 for about six hours while investigators cleared the site. Law‑enforcement agencies were on the scene, and the incident reminds drivers to remain alert, especially during high‑speed police chases.
