Hunter Biden said he was so mad when Barack Obama dragged his dad, President Joe Biden, off the stage at a Hollywood fundraiser last July that he could have cracked. He told journalist Jonathan Karl that he nearly shouted, “Don’t ever do that to the president of the United States again.”

The moment happened at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where Joe froze on stage for ten seconds before Obama took him toward the curtain. The clip quickly went viral, feeding worries about the then‑80‑year‑old president’s mental sharpness.

“Everyone’s talking about how the president looks confused or out of it,” Hunter explained. “I knew that would turn into a meme.” He added that the scene infuriated him because it reminded him of the intense pressure on the Biden campaign.

The fundraiser raised more than $30 million for the Biden campaign, just a week or so before a tough debate with President Trump. Many Hollywood names were in the audience, and actor‑donor George Clooney, who was there, later wrote in the New York Times that the president was not “the big deal” Joe Biden people had known in 2010 or 2020.

Clooney said, “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020; he was the same man we all saw at the debate.” Journalists Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper described the event as “shaken to his core” and noted that the president didn’t even recognize a long‑time friend during the debate.

Hunter Biden has called out Clooney before. In July, on Andrew Callaghan’s YouTube show “Channel 5,” he said, “F‑‑k him, f‑‑k him, f‑‑k him and everybody around him.” He also slammed Clooney’s close relationship with Obama, calling the Hollywood star “not an actor, but a brand.”

The fallout from the fundraiser and the debate spurred calls for Joe Biden to end his 2024 re‑election bid, which he ultimately did less than a month later. The viral clip, the Hoffman‑Stone fundraiser, and the polarized reactions illustrate how quickly a single moment can shape a modern political campaign.
