An Indiana truck driver, who is an illegal immigrant, has been arrested after a crash on US Highway 20 that killed a Subaru Crosstrek driver. Portage Police say the 54‑year‑old, Broko Stankovic, was behind the wheel of a semi‑truck when he didn’t slow down as a Ram Sprinter turned near Douglas Drive.
Stankovic tried to make a hard left, collided with the Subaru, and the semi jackknifed, sending the Sprinter into a road sign.
The Subaru driver died at the scene. Police say Stankovic was driving a truck without a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL). He had a suspended Illinois CDL that belonged to a family member, and his company was not registered with the Department of Transportation.
ICE was notified because of his immigration status and placed a detainer on him while he was being taken to Porter County Jail.
Stankovic faces charges of felony reckless homicide and felony criminal recklessness resulting in death. Fox News Digital asked ICE for more details.
