Gavaskar, Shastri back Suryakumar-led India to shine in T20 Asia Cup

Cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri are rooting for the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team to dominate the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup, kicking off on Tuesday in the UAE. This exciting tournament brings together eight powerhouse teams—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong—all battling for glory as they gear up for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

India jumps into Group A action against UAE on September 10, followed by high-stakes clashes with Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19. Once the league stage wraps up, the top teams advance to the Super Four, with the grand final set for September 28 in Dubai. Fans can’t wait to see how Suryakumar Yadav’s squad performs in this key Asia Cup 2025 showdown.

Gavaskar, the batting icon, shared his thoughts on Sony Sports Network, the official broadcasters for the Asia Cup. “Team India under Suryakumar Yadav’s dynamic leadership mixes grit and smarts perfectly. Surya’s innovative batting and captaincy fire up the whole side. This team represents the future of Indian cricket—diverse, versatile, and ready to fight. The Asia Cup isn’t just about defending our top spot; it’s a chance to build a new era of T20 dominance for India,” he said.

This marks India’s first T20I series since their thrilling 4-1 home win over England in January. Shastri, the former all-rounder and head coach, praised the lineup too. “With Suryakumar Yadav leading boldly and Shubman Gill bringing fresh energy as vice-captain, this Indian squad blends experience with raw talent perfectly,” he noted.

Shastri highlighted stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Abhishek Sharma, and Hardik Pandya for their world-class skills, plus young guns Tilak Varma and Harshit Rana adding that extra spark. “The Asia Cup 2025 will test their true potential. Under Surya’s calm yet aggressive style, I see this team rising strong and setting new standards for Indian cricket,” Shastri added.
