Jack Schlossberg wants to double fed security funding for houses of worship after anti-Israel mob terrorizes NYC synagogue

Jack Schlossberg, the Kennedy heir, is pushing to double the federal money that goes to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) after people called for violence during a hate‑filled protest outside the historic Park East Synagogue in Manhattan.

The 32‑year‑old is running to take over the seat of long‑time Representative Jerry Nadler in New York’s 12th District. He announced a plan to raise NSGP funds from the current $270 million to at least $500 million. The program supplies security improvements to nonprofits and places of worship.

He told The Post that religious institutions are still frequent targets and deserve more support. “Houses of worship remain targets and they really do need help,” he said.

The proposal came just before a group of anti‑Israel demonstrators marched outside Park East Synagogue on Nov. 19, chanting slogans like “Globalize the intifada” and “Death to the IDF.” They also heckled people entering a building hosting an event by a Zionist group that assists American Jews in immigrating to Israel.

“They were not political protest points in my opinion; they were calls to violence,” Schlossberg remarked. “I don’t think New Yorkers will stand for that. We’re living in unprecedented times and uncharted territory where antisemitism has reared its head in a way I think scares a lot of people, so I condemn those statements.”

Alfred Schlossberg, Jack’s paternal grandfather, was once president of Park East Synagogue. Jack was raised Catholic but identifies as culturally Jewish.

If elected, he plans to make the NSGP boost one of his first legislative actions and to fast‑track the proposal to the House floor to avoid delays. He refers to the effort as the “Jack‑Fast‑Track” plan, noting that FEMA‑sourced money would also help community centers, Jewish schools, mosques, and churches.

“The other night was at a synagogue, but it could have been at a church, it could have been at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, it could’ve been at a mosque,” he added. “And we need to ensure that these houses of worship are safe.”

Schlossberg, known for his controversial social‑media videos, is among a dozen candidates contesting the affluent district that has seen him stand out.
