Jane Fonda remembered seeing Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, look healthy and happy at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas bash the night before they were stabbed to death in their Los Angeles home.
The “Grace and Frankie” star, now 87, posted a heartfelt tribute and a photo of the “When Harry Met Sally” filmmaker and his partner, one day after the brutal murders shocked Hollywood.
“Rob and Michele Reiner were wonderful, caring, smart, funny, generous people, always coming up with ideas for how to make the world better, kinda,” Fonda wrote on Instagram. She added that the duo had helped her launch the Committee for the First Amendment, a prominent free‑speech group.
“I saw them the night before last looking healthy and happy. I am reeling with grief. Stunned,” she said.
Nick Reiner, the couple’s 32‑year‑old middle child, is charged with fatally stabbing the 78‑year‑old director and his 70‑year‑old mother early Sunday at their Brentwood estate. The son, who has struggled with drug addiction, reportedly had a heated argument with his parents at O’Brien’s holiday party and even spat a tiff with comedian Bill Hader.
He allegedly slashed both parents’ throats before fleeing the scene, leaving his sister, Romy, to discover the gruesome aftermath when she went to check on her parents after a massage therapist was inexplicably silent at their gate.
Police say Nick was arrested a few hours later, roughly 15 miles away. He faces two counts of first‑degree murder and could be eligible for the death penalty if convicted. He appeared in court on Wednesday wearing shackles and a blue suicide smock, but his arraignment was postponed to January 7. He remains in a Los Angeles jail without bail.
